Discovery Channel and the Alleged Family Tomb of Jesus

Once again popular media tries to hit Christianity with a deathly assault. The Discovery Channel has raised the question if a tomb excavated in 1980 could be the tomb of Jesus.

This would of course also mean the death of Christianity as we know it. So it is not a neutral question raised by the popular science channel.

A documentary will premiere on the Discovery Channel on March 4 at 9 p.m. ET/PT. The documentary comes from executive producer James Cameron and director Simcha Jacobovici. http://www.discovery.com/tomb

One wonders why Discovery issues this as breaking news when the tomb was found already in 1980.

For most people - clergy and reliable scientists - it is pseudo science since the finding of a 2000 year old tomb in Israel equals the finding of a tomb of "Jones" in the US of today.

The people who loved to hate the church after the Da Vinci Code will watch the documentary and give their "Amen". Once again churches around the world has to spend time to fight popular (pseudo) science.

Taken positively this might also mean an increased interest in Christianity as did the Da Vinci Code. At least this was the result in Protestant circles here in Denmark.

I'm so tired of people calling this presentation of archeological fact "pseudo-science." The evidence put forward in the show was debated, ddiscussed and studied by degreed archeologistts, microbiologists and staticians. It is not akin to saying we found the Jones's tomb, it is much more specific than that! Please just listen to the show, and hear the evidence before you dismiss the idea of it possibly being Jesus' tomb. The public has a right to make up their own minds without feeling as though they're going to be lumped together and labelled as gullible before they even hear the evidence for themselves.
