Poland´s Prime Minister Wants EU Ban on Abortion

Permalink 06:47:48 pm, Categories: misc, Church, Catholic, Europe

Poland's Deputy Prime Minister and Education minister, Roman Giertych, wants the EU constitution to include a ban on abortion. Europe need a serious discussion of the Christian foundation of its morality.

“Abortion needs to be banned immediately.” Giertych told reporters in Heidelberg, Germany, at meeting of European education miniters. Abortion according to Giertych is “a new form of barbarism,” and he warned against the decline of a Christian-based culture.

“A nation which kills its children is a nation without a future. A continent which kills its children will be settled by people who do not kill theirs,” he said.

If Europeans are not careful Europe will be habitated by people who cherish the family: “If we will not use all our power to strengthen the family, then as a continent there is not a future for us. We will be a continent settled by representatives of the Islamic world who care for the family.”

Giertych also attacked what he calls "homosexual propaganda": “Homosexual propaganda must also be limited so children will have the correct view of the family.”

Needless to say the comments has caused fierce debate.

Roman Giertych is leader of Poland's Catholic-nationalist League of Polish Families (LPR).

The catholic cardinal George Pell has banned all talk about the sexual conquers of the deceased at funerals where lay persons perform the eulogy.

“On not a few occasions, inappropriate remarks glossing over the deceased’s proclivities (drinking prowess, romantic conquests, etc) or about the Church (attacking its moral teachings) have been made at funeral Masses,” said a directive by the cardinal.

Discovery Channel and the Alleged Family Tomb of Jesus

Permalink 09:16:11 am, Categories: misc, Church, Orthodox, Lutheran, Catholic, Anglican

Once again popular media tries to hit Christianity with a deathly assault. The Discovery Channel has raised the question if a tomb excavated in 1980 could be the tomb of Jesus.

This would of course also mean the death of Christianity as we know it. So it is not a neutral question raised by the popular science channel.

A documentary will premiere on the Discovery Channel on March 4 at 9 p.m. ET/PT. The documentary comes from executive producer James Cameron and director Simcha Jacobovici. http://www.discovery.com/tomb

One wonders why Discovery issues this as breaking news when the tomb was found already in 1980.

For most people - clergy and reliable scientists - it is pseudo science since the finding of a 2000 year old tomb in Israel equals the finding of a tomb of "Jones" in the US of today.

The people who loved to hate the church after the Da Vinci Code will watch the documentary and give their "Amen". Once again churches around the world has to spend time to fight popular (pseudo) science.

Taken positively this might also mean an increased interest in Christianity as did the Da Vinci Code. At least this was the result in Protestant circles here in Denmark.
